Rachel Nixon is Global News Director of Vancouver-based NowPublic.com, a leading participatory news network. NowPublic is changing the way news is made and distributed by harnessing the wisdom of crowds and tapping into the news-creating potential of millions of internet users, bloggers and photography enthusiasts.
Before joining NowPublic, Rachel was Deputy World Editor for the internationally acclaimed BBCNews.com, based in London, UK. In her nine years at BBCNews.com, she led coverage of key global stories such as 9/11, the war in Iraq, the US presidential elections of 2004 and the mid-term elections of 2006. She also reported from Bali on the aftermath of the 2002 bombing. She was named BBC World Service Editor of the Year in 2007 for her work across multiple and emerging media platforms. Rachel is an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of British Columbia.
